Told with razor-sharp wit and an unfiltered, hypnotic voice, Clean Houses follows Sol. She is a progressive young woman obsessed with cleanliness who, upon becoming pregnant, hires two housekeepers to help her at home. Although having domestic workers should, in theory, make her life easier, it instead becomes a source of inner turmoil: she needs them, yet she wishes they didn't exist. Morally compelled to justify her privilege, she searches for a more "respectable" and creative job-one just as precarious as those of her girls. However, in a twist of irony, she finds herself secretly enjoying cleaning jobs and excelling at them.

The arrival of her baby further sharpens her dilemma: should she choose a job deemed "dignified" or one considered "humiliating"? As she wrestles with these choices, Sol is forced to confront her own prejudices and acknowledge how money and power dynamics shape her identity, relationships, and self-perception.

A brilliantly outrageous take on the contradictions of modern feminism, class awareness, and the social choreography of domestic labour.

María Agúndez is a writer, advertising voice-over artist, and illustrator under the pseudonym marigundez. At the age of twenty-one, she wrote and directed the documentary Los Hombres También son Vírgenes (Men Are Virgins Too), which won the award for Best Documentary Short Film at the Premio Ciutat de Palma. She has worked in advertising production and as a lyricist for TV series soundtracks and jingles. In 2021, she published her debut novel, Piscinas que no Cubren (Editorial Dieciséis), and contributed to the Ombligo issue of the Esto es un cuerpo collection with her piece "Una pequeñacueva con toldo", created in collaboration with photographer Laura F. Izuzquiza. Clean Houses (Casas Limpias, Temas de Hoy, 2025) is her second novel.
