'She was fire. He was light. Together, they ignited the spark.'
In a realm where gods gaze down from their celestial thrones while mortals endure their trials, Vree of Elaris stands as a fierce warrior-mage, unyielding in her defiance. Her homeland lies in ashes, ravaged by the tyrant Kael, whose cruelty is not merely his own but a dark blessing from the God of Vengeance. She fights not for fame, but for survival, for justice, and for the souls she has lost along the way.

Yet, she is not alone in her struggle.

Arn, the Emissary of Light, has witnessed the suffering of mortals for centuries-until he dares to defy divine law to save a child. His reward? Exile. His sin? Compassion. His journey? A mortal realm where he feels increasingly out of place.

When their destinies intertwine, the tide of rebellion begins to shift. Vree discovers how to tap into the power of the Whispering Woods, commanding the very essence of nature. Arn, stripped of his divine status but not his mission, transforms into something entirely new-a god who walks among mortals, rather than above them.

But the gods are ever-watchful.

And they will not let defiance blossom into a full-blown revolution.

The Seeds of Rebellion marks the dawn of an epic clash between the heavens and the earth-a tale woven with forbidden love, moral awakening, and the first flicker of a war that threatens to set the skies ablaze.

CHAPTER 12: Through the Ashen Pass

"She walked with fire, he with fading light,

Both seeking truth in endless night.

And though the gods had cast him low,

He found his strength where mortals go."

The Journey Begins

They set off from Elaris at dawn.

The camp they left behind was still, blissfully unaware of the storm that was brewing. Vree rode ahead, quiet and determined, while Arn chose to walk—he insisted on it. He wanted to feel the earth beneath his feet, to truly grasp what it meant to move without the aid of divine grace.

At first, the silence between them felt heavy.

Then the questions began.

“You never used to be afraid,” she remarked after hours of riding along the edge of the

Whispering Woods. “Now you flinch when I raise my voice.”

Arn turned to her, deep in thought. “I used to know how every moment would unfold.

Now, I can’t even tell if I’ll trip over a root until I’m already on the ground.”

Vree slowed her horse, allowing him to walk alongside her.

“I didn’t mean to snap at you,” she confessed. “Back at the camp. I thought I had more time…”

Arn nodded in understanding. “You needed to let that anger out.”

“And what about now?”

“Now, we just keep moving.”

She studied him for a moment. “You’re not the same as you were.”

“No,” he replied. “But maybe that’s not such a bad thing.”

As they journeyed on, Arn began to notice things he had overlooked before.

The way the wind carried scents differently now that he couldn’t simply read the ley lines.

How fatigue settled into his muscles like a heavy stone.

But there were also subtle, odd changes.

One evening, as they set up camp near an ancient ley node hidden beneath moss and ivy, Arn felt something awaken inside him.

Not foresight.

Not light.

Something else.

He placed his hand on the earth and closed his eyes.

A warmth pulsed beneath his palm—not divine energy, but something older. Something grounded.

When he opened his eyes, Vree was watching him.

“What was that?” she asked.

“I’m not sure,” he replied slowly. “It’s like… listening. But not with ears.”

Vree frowned. “You’re starting to hear the land.”

“I think I am”

She studied him for a long moment.

“Maybe you haven’t lost everything.”

“Maybe not.”

***

The journey from Elaris to Thal’Raan was a long one, winding through both stunning and perilous landscapes. They travelled along the Ashen Pass, an ancient trade route that had been carved into the cliffs of the Stormspire Mountains, now mostly deserted due to Kael’s increasing power.

The first few days passed in silence.

They rode through the Ember Vale, where the red grasses danced like flames in the breeze. Herds of wind striders, elegant, deer-like creatures with translucent fur, watched them from a distance, their eyes glowing softly in the twilight.

By the third day, they arrived at the Obsidian Ridge, where jagged black rocks jutted out of the ground like broken teeth. Here, the air shimmered with leftover ley energy, and mysterious shadowfoxes prowled among the ruins of ancient watchtowers, whispering in long-forgotten languages.

Arn began to notice things he had never perceived before. Not just sights and sounds, but emotions.

One evening, as they set up camp by a stream fed by glacial melt, he placed his hand on the earth and closed his eyes.

“I think I can hear the land,” he whispered.

Vree glanced up from sharpening her blade. “What do you mean by that?”

“It’s not foresight,” he replied thoughtfully. “It’s more… immediate. Like listening to someone breathe.”

Vree regarded him closely. “You’re starting to feel the world instead of just observing it.”

He nodded. “Maybe this is what it truly means to live.”

As the days went by, the silence between them felt a little less burdensome.

At night, they began to chat. Starting with the little things. He talked about his life in Celestara. How the stars appeared so different here compared to the celestial Realm. She told him about the daily life of her and her people. She only realized later that he probably already knows all there is to know.

Then, they ventured into deeper conversations as they sat next to a Fire she had made.

“Are we really not going to talk about it?” she asked, her tone a mix of curiosity and frustration.

Arn looked up, puzzled. “Talk about what?”

“You know exactly what I mean.”

Arn let out a weary sigh. “You want to know why I stayed silent.”

Vree crossed her arms, her expression firm. “Yes, I do.”

Her gaze was fixed on the flickering flames.

“I have been watching you,” she continued. “You’re different from the rest. You do not just observe; you actually feel.”

Arn hesitated, searching for the right words.

“I was not meant to feel,” he finally admitted. “Not in this way.”

Vree turned to face him, her eyes searching his. “Then why do you?”

He held her gaze, a mix of resolve and vulnerability in his eyes.

“Because I do not think we were created to rule over others.”

Vree’s jaw clenched, tension radiating from her.

“Then why do you?”

Arn looked away, the weight of his thoughts heavy on his shoulders.

“I do not have an answer that will make you happy.”

“Try me,” she urged, leaning in closer.

He took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts.

“I have watched humans suffer for centuries. I convinced myself it was all about balance, that we couldn’t interfere directly.”

Vree leaned in, her interest piqued. “But my mother…”

Arn shut his eyes, memories flooding back.

“She was taken by Kael long before I even knew her name. Long before I knew yours.”

Vree’s voice dropped to a whisper. “You witnessed it.”

“I did.”

“And you did nothing.”

Arn looked at her, really looked.

“I didn’t save her,” he confessed. “And I can’t change what’s already happened.”

Vree’s hands shook.

“Why not?”

Arn spoke softly. “Because I was bound by the Law. Because I thought the gods had a purpose. Because I believed… if I questioned too much, I’d lose my place among the stars.”

Vree let out a bitter laugh. “And now?”

He offered a faint smile. “Now I’m here.”

She scrutinized him.

“That’s not an answer.”

“No,” he admitted. “But it’s the only one I have.”

Vree stood and began to pace.

“You keep saying the gods have rules,” she said. “But never any reasons. Why do they allow this? Why let Kael destroy villages? Why let my mother die?”

Arn stayed seated.

“The gods think they’re above consequences,” he replied. “They see mortals as fleeting. As tools to mould the world, not as lives to protect.”

Vree turned sharply. “And you?”

He met her gaze.

“I see you.”

She didn’t soften.

“That’s not enough.”

Arn nodded. “I know.”

He gestured toward the stars.

“The gods believe they are eternal. That their laws are unbreakable. That mortals exist to fulfill their desires.”

Vree’s voice turned icy. “And you do not?”

Arn paused.

“I used to.”

Silence hung heavily between them.

Then he added, “Now I wonder if eternity means anything if we ignore what’s right.”

Vree settled beside him again, this time more slowly. Not out of anger, but with a weightier emotion.

“My mother always said the gods had names,” she whispered. “That they listened when you called them.”

Arn tilted his head, intrigued. “Did she pray to them?”

Vree’s lips tightened into a thin line.

“Every single night.”

She turned her gaze to him.

“And every morning, we still went hungry.”

Arn fell silent.

Vree pressed on, her voice soft yet piercing.

“She had faith in justice. In mercy.”

Her eyes blazed with...
