The Task
Ava grew into a young adult and was trained in the
knowledge of the Light by the Council, especially by
Niam and Saira. Now her final test was approaching. She
spent every night on the cliff near the gorge practicing the
rituals. Over time, she had learned how to use the light of
nature and in her heart. Ava has the ability to influence the
elements of nature and practiced moving stones with her
will. Saira appeared behind Ava on the cliff and watched
her. Ava sensed Saira's presence and turned to face her.
Her eyes were white. Saira wiped the air with her hand
and Ava's eyes returned to their natural color. Ava closed
her eyes for a moment and had a burning feeling suddenly
and then looked at Saira. „Never merge our two souls
without my permission!“, Saira said sternly. „I'm sorry.“,
said Ava. „Remember that! But I actually wanted to see
how you progressed. You've been sitting here for hours.“,
said Saira. „Do you see that stone tower over there?“,
asked Ava, pointing to the stone tower on a large stone
cliff. Saira saw it and was impressed. „Very good.“, said
Saira. Ava put her candles in her bag. „Tomorrow is your
test. Are you prepared?“, asked Saira. Ava hung her bag
across her torso and stood up. „I think so.“, Ava said
thoughtfully. „Hey, what's wrong?“, asked Saira. Ava
looked at Saira. „Everything will change after then, won't
it?“, asked Ava. „Ava! You've become a grown woman.
You look at the horizon every day and dream of exploring
the world. Ava, you are strong and self-confident. You are
on fire for the good things in life. Your test is not the end, after that you open a new chapter.“, said Saira. „What if I
fail?“, asked Ava. „You won't.“, said Saira. „What makes
you confident?“, asked Ava. „Because I know you. Seeing
as I believe in you. I know what you're capable of.“, said
Saira. „Have you seen my future?“, asked Ava. „We
should go.“, Saira evaded. „You're avoiding me! You have
the gift. Tell me! You've seen my future, am I right?“, Ava
shouted. Saira turned around and looked into Ava's eyes.
Their souls merged. Her eyes turned white. „Look at me!
Never question my decisions. Look into the future
yourself and never look back. The light will guide you and
one more thing. Never question me, the head of the
council, the guardian of the light and the tides. Never!“,
Saira said sternly and interrupted the connection. „Come
on. We're going!“, said Saira. Ava went down into the
ravine with her without reluctance. Saira walked on, but
Ava stopped at a pool of water and looked into it. Saira
looked back and walked back to Ava. Ava wiped the
surface of the water and saw the starry sky. Saira stood
beside her. „You've never affected me before, especially
not being as strict with me. You've changed.“, Ava said.
„Ava! I've raised you since you were a baby. You're my
foster daughter. But I am the one who will test you
tomorrow. I have to give you a quest. I have to tell you
your destiny. Giving you your title. It is my destiny to
decide your future. I'm one of the council's supreme
leaders and I have no choice. If I have been strict with
you, then I want you to be independent. I want you to
believe in yourself as I do. But I am also your tutor. I often
have to treat you differently than you deserve or expect.
Do you understand that?“, said Saira. „Yes.“, said Ava and
pulled a shard of light out of the water. She formed a heart from it and held it in her hand. Then she brought it to
Saira's chest and let it into her heart. She looked at Saira
and Saira held Ava's hand against her heart. „You don't
have to say anything. I know.“, Saira said. She hugged
Ava. „I will never leave you alone. Never!“, whispered
Saira. „I'm worried.“, whispered Ava. „You don't need to
be. You have the gift of making the powers of the
elements yours. A strong sorceress, you are by far the best
student I have ever had the pleasure of training. I am
already so immensely proud of you. You will succeed.“,
said Saira. „Thank you on believing in me.“, Ava said and
looked at Saira. „Look inside yourself, and you'll believe
in yourself too. Go to sleep and recharge your batteries. I
have some things to discuss with Raman and the rest of
the council.“, Saira said. „Okay. See you tomorrow.“, Ava
said and let go of Saira. „See you tomorrow. Sleep well.“,
Saira said and kissed Ava on the forehead. Ava went to her
sleeping place. Saira looked after her and then went into
one of the caves to the council. Ava wiped above her head
and many lighted candles appeared above her bed. She
stayed awake for a long time until sleep took her. Ava
woke up the next day. The candles above her had
extinguished and burned down. She moved her hands and
said, „The time I have left. Melt into one and give me the
light and shine my path wide.“. The candles melted into
one large one. Ava changed into a black dress and hung
her necklace around her neck. Saira came with a black
cloak. „Good morning. I brought you your cloak.“, Saira
said and held it out to Ava. Ava looked at her. Saira helped
her into the cloak. „Now you're ready.“, Saira said
emotionally. „I'm ready.“, Ava said and held out her hand
to the candle. It flew into her hand. „For what did you choose this spell?“, Saira asked. „For remaining time.“,
said Ava. „You didn't get it from me or Niam.“, Saira said.
„It resulted from an accident a while ago. I wanted to
create shards of light against the darkness, but they
became candles. Today, I fused all the candles into one.“,
said Ava. „I like the spell.“, Saira smiled. Ava smiled back.
„Let's go. The council is waiting for us.“, Saira said and
walked with Ava to the stone circle. The council had
gathered together there and were already standing in a
circle. „Ava, take your place in the center.“, said Raman,
the guardian of the circle. Saira placed her hand on Ava's
back and guided her to the center. „Stand here!“, said
Saira and stood in the circle to join the council. Ava sent
the candle into the air and lit up the place. Some of the
council murmured something to each other. „Quiet! Ava.
Today you will be tested in three quests. Task 1: >>Create
something from the light within you<< >> . Task 2: Merge
with a person and see their destiny<<. Task 3: >>Illuminate
the ravine in golden light<<. Are you ready?“, asked Resa,
the Guardian of Conscience and another of the Council's
Supreme Heads. „I am ready!“, said Ava confidently.
„May the examiner step into the circle!“, shouted Resa.
Saira stepped into the circle. Ava looked at her. „Ava. It's
time for >> << task 1. Create something out of light.”, said
Saira. Ava closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She
waved her arms as if they were wings. Then she held her
hands to her heart and pulled out a glowing egg. She held
it in front of her and the council saw a chick hatch. Ava
quickly raised her hands upwards and an owl flew over the
council's heads to a rock. She sat down there. The council
applauded. „Bravo!“, whispered Niam. „Well done, Ava.“,
said Resa. „Let's move on to >>task 2<<. Find a person and look into that person's soul.“, said Saira. Ava looked
around. She walked towards a young man. It was Noah.
He is a young scholar who helped Niam with the
scriptures. „Focus, Ava.“, whispered Saira. Ava focused on
Noah. „Look at me.“, Ava said and merged with Noah's
soul. Both of their eyes turned white. „Now Ava, tell us
what you see.“, Saira said. Ava heard Noah's feelings and
thoughts in her head. She sensed his fear. „I can feel his
fear. He's fighting me.“, Ava said. „Relax, Noah.“, said
Niam. „I see an old man in a white cloak and white hair.
He carries scrolls under his arm. There is white moonlight
around him.“, said Ava. „Very good. Break the
connection.“, said Saira. Ava broke the connection and
looked at Noah. He was uncomfortable and Ava felt it.
„Well. It's time for the final task.“, Saira snapped Ava out
of her thoughts. Ava looked at her. She knew she had to
concentrate and pull herself together again. „Illuminate the
gorge in golden light.“, Saira said. Ava closed her eyes.
She knelt on the ground and placed her hands flat on the
ground. A wind blew through the gorge. The council
looked uneasily at each other. Only Saira remained calm
and watched Ava. Ava stood up. Her hair blew in the wind.
The necklace shone a bright red. She held her hands
together and opened them...
