CHAPTER 9: INNOCENT LOVE

10 years back

Third Person POV

“Mom, it hurts,” 10 year old Samantha cried while clutching her mommy’s hand.

She had shown early signs of being a fine Ninja and Assassin and the Alpha-Beta duo of the Diamond Heart Pack had been quick to act upon this revelation.

Beta Draven, too had sent his three sons for Ninja training and when they would be back home, they too shall be tattooed on the head just like little Samantha, whose scalp was designed with the rare Dragon tattoo presently.

Her beautiful hair had been shaved off to reveal a shining moon like head and the needle that worked on her was hurting her soft head to extreme lengths, especially when a painful hole was made deep in her skin to hide a gem.

“I know baby but this is necessary. If you are ever caught, you can trigger the ‘Ninja Dragon Stone’ in your scalp and it will protect you from whatever evil force is trying to harm you,” Zoe told her teary eyed daughter, who was holding up pretty well for her young age to go through such an agonizing experience.

Not even her sextuplet siblings had been subject to this kind of special training and it really sucked when she was the only one left in the forest for the Ninja exam in nothing but a huge unisex shirt, baggy shorts, bare foot and bald with the scalp showing the deep black, inked Dragon tattoo.

Basically, she could be easily mistaken as a bald boy on a run.

The Dragon in the tattoo had a small pearl between its fangs and that pearl was none other than the powerful ‘Ninja Dragon Stone’ which could trigger wars just to possess it for its immense power.

Hence, it was no wonder that only Zoe, her Beta- Draven and Samantha were the only ones who knew about it.

However, when little Samantha was trudging her way through the dangerous forest on the 20th day, ever since she was left here as a part of an examination, her Alpha ears caught the faint sound of a cry and for some reason that triggered her wolf to get overly active.

Scratch that. Her she wolf was frantic all of a sudden and urged her human to hurry up towards the opposite direction from which they had to go.

The major mission of the exam was to get out of the forest ALIVE and come out of the exit at the opposite end of the dangerous habitat from where she had been dropped off. She would fail the exam if she did not make it back within 3 weeks i.e. 21 days.

Today was her last day and time was of essence but that desperate cry could not be ignored.

Running through the thick jungle over muddy treks, hopping from one branch to another and finally sliding down rocky and grassy peaks, she finally reached towards the source of the cry, by the waterfall and when her eyes met his desperate green ones, her heart bled out.

A whimper of pain escaped her lips, as if she was the one who was clinging to the protruding, sharp rock, just over the huge, aggressive waterfall for dear life.

“Help me. Please,” the green eyed, ten year old boy with an Arrow tattoo by his nape pleaded, as he kept his hold over the pinching rock with bloody hands while looking up at the presence over him.

“Hang on tight and close your eyes. When I will throw the rope, grab it quickly and jump over. Ok ?” Samantha said in a gruff voice.

“Ok !” the other wolf breathed out and quickly closed his eyes as instructed while Samantha ran back for a minute to get the mentioned helping tool.

Meanwhile, two wolves were already getting riled up with excitement, unknown to their human counterparts who were more concerned about saving the life of the boy over the waterfall, at the moment.

“GRAB THE ROPE, DUDE !!” Samantha shouted from above and for some unknown reason, the dangling boy showed immense faith on the “boy” helping him and hence, grabbed hold of the “rope” thrown towards him with closed eyes.

The innocent kid did not even question why he was told to keep his eyes closed ! This was surely not what his assassin training stated.

But then desperate times call for desperate measures !!

It was not his fault !

After several grunts, pulls and hisses, the mission- “SAVING THE GREEN EYED BOY” was a success as the ragged looking but attractive boy was saved from falling to his death in the gigantic waterfall.

After finally setting booth feet on firm ground, the boy opened his eyes and to his horror, saw the “rope” move on its own !

It was a snake in his hand !!

And if that was not enough to give a heart attack then he noticed that he was holding the snake by its head- one inch here and there, and the snake was all ready to sting the boy.

“AAAHHHH !!!!” Yelling at the top of his voice, the young Alpha wolf threw away the snake far away from him and turned towards his saviour with a frown on his face.

“WHY WOULD YOU THROW A SNAKE AS A ROPE AT ME ?” he yelled in fright at his saviour, who was simply gawking at the handsome boy, all this while, as if he was the most attractive species, she had ever seen inspite of having model looking wolves back at her pack too. “ARE YOU CRAZY ?” he added causing Samantha to jerk off from her daydreaming mode.

Coming back to her senses, the naughty sextuplet grinned and hugged the boy before squealing, “I saved you !! I am so glad to have met you !” she excitedly told her new friend, completely forgetting about her main mission and the growling rant that the green eyed boy had just given.

The boy shyly smiled back and replied, “Thank you for saving me ! I lost my footing and went sliding down the rock before I caught it,” he sheepishly explained while showing his blood drenched hands.

“Your wolf is not healing them !” Samantha pointed out while frowning.

Taking her future mate’s hand in her equally tiny ones, she led him to a nearby tree before taking off to get the medicinal herbs she had noticed on her way here.

Bless Ingrid- the pack doctor’s soul who had patiently taught Samantha all about herbs years ago.

With bananas in one hand and herbs in the other she went back to the wounded wolf and plopped down against the tree beside him.

“Here ! Eat them all and face towards the other side with eyes closed,” Samantha instructed while grabbing her patient’s hand after giving him all the bananas.

“You won’t hand over another snake in my hand again, will you ?” the boy half jokingly and half alarmingly asked.

Bursting out laughing, Samantha replied, “Of course not, silly,” and when her companion relaxed at that, she continued, “ …. but I might bury your hand in an ant hill instead,” she chuckled making the boy withdraw his hand towards himself immediately.

“You are wicked !!” he exclaimed making her laugh.

“I was just joking. Now, let me take care of you and look at the other side,” she instructed and again, the boy trusted her before digging in the fresh bananas and closing his eyes.

He was on a mission for weeks too and now he wanted to get out of here but he still had 48 hours to stay in this darn place. No Alpha of his age was dropped in the middle of nowhere for training, except for him and this cute “boy” with him.

“OWWW !!!!” he suddenly screamed as he turned his head towards his hand and tried to pry it off Samantha’s hands but the Alpha she wolf held on to them strongly and continued dabbing the herb extract in his palms’ wounds. “IT BURNS SO BAD,” the boy cried while writhing his wrist under Samantha’s hold.

“Alphas might cry but it will never be due to physical pain,” the she wolf shared her words of wisdom. “If you survived in this forest for so long, then this pain is nothing,” she chatted away. “Stop crying for nothing. I told you to not look and concentrate on getting some food in your lanky body,” she told him off.

The boy had his pride too and snorted, “I am strong and muscular,” he huffed while sucking up the damn burning sensations.

“Sure you are,” Samantha taunted with a roll of her eyes.

“What’s your name ?” he asked to forget about the fresh and old pain of the wounds on his hand. The herbs stung a lot. Shit !

“I don’t tell my name to strangers,” she replied pat with a smirk.

“We are not strangers anymore,” the boy softly said. “We are friends !” he whispered making Samantha look at him wide eyed before she grinned.

“You can call me Simz. Only Dre and my siblings get to call me that,” she shyly told her much endearing, intimate nickname to her new friend.

“No !” the boy huffed. “I am a special friend now and Simz is such a girly name. I will call you Timz,” he happily suggested, even satisfied with the new name he came up with.

Sigh !

The wonders of innocence.

Who could have someone known that over the years, both yearned for their “special friend” and even took every opportunity to return back to the forest where they had first met to find each other but to no avail.

“Coz I am a girl,” Samantha deadpanned. However, she was strangely happy with the boyish name because it was her special friend who gave her that name !

“No way ! I totally thought you were a boy,” he replied back in shock, while giving Samantha a once-over from head to toe.

The clothes and bald look had totally thrown him off !!

Also, didn’t girls like long hair instead of weird tattooed scalps ?
