Annette Bräker first came into contact with Asia when she was very young. Her father was an orientalist whose wife usually accompanied him on his research trips, and their daughter Annette was often allowed to go along with them, so that she got to know and love Asia very early on. This led her to study comparative religion, Malay studies and oriental art history.
Horst H. Geerken lived in Indonesia from 1963 to 1981. In addition to his professional work as Resident Engineer he travelled a large part of Asia during this time and later, often with his long-term partner Annette Bräker. Horst H. Geerken has published several historical works, including A Gecko for Luck about the Dutch colonial period and the independence struggle in Indonesia. His Hitlers Asian Adventure documents the influence of the Third Reich on independence movements in South-East Asia and India.
