A series of three-hundred-year-old paintings hold the clues to a mysterious death. But can the truth of the past be uncovered in the present?
History is only as accurate as the records on which it is written.

Somersham Court has been neglected for years, but when former city-dweller Miles Mortimer purchases the dilapidated country house, he is determined to restore it, with the begrudging help of expert buildings and art restorer Lucy Moncrief.

Setting aside their differences, the two unlikely companions commence their project, unexpectedly uncovering a three-hundred-year-old missing person's case: the disappearance of Thomas Matthews, the eldest son of the former owner of Somersham Court.

As they delve deeper, these two amateur sleuths discover a series of paintings, all of which appear to hold clues to Thomas's disappearance. But with individuals past and present blocking their path at every turn, will their budding relationship survive their search for the truth?

A countrywoman at heart, Jay lives a quiet rural life with her husband, their dogs and pedigree rare breed sheep, regularly contributing to magazine articles offering advice and support to new small holders. After taking early retirement, Jay completed a BA in History, alongside a creative writing module, which gave her the confidence and inspiration to combine the two disciplines of history and creative writing to pen her debut novel.
