Venture back in time to Victorian London to join literature's greatest detective team—the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and his devoted assistant, Dr. Watson—as they investigate a dozen of their best-known cases. Originally published in 1892, featured tales include several of the author's personal favorites: "A Scandal in Bohemia"—in which a king is blackmailed by a former lover and Holmes matches wits with the only woman to attract his open admiration—plus "The Speckled Band," "The Red-Headed League," and "The Five Orange Pips." Additional mysteries include "The Blue Carbuncle," "The Engineer’s Thumb," "The Beryl Coronet," "The Copper Beeches," and others.

Whether you're buying this as a gift or for yourself, this remarkable edition features: a beautiful high-end hardcover featuring Laci Fowler's distinctive hand-painted art, perfect for standing out on any discerning fiction lover's bookshelf; embossed cover art and gold foiling; decorative interior pages featuring pull quotes distributed throughout; a matching ribbon marker; and gold page edges.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859 and died in 1930. Within those years was crowded a variety of activity and creative work that made him an international figure. He was educated at Stonyhurst, and later studied medicine at Edinburgh University, where the methods of diagnosis of one of the professors provided the idea for the methods of deduction used by Sherlock Holmes. He set up as a doctor at Southsea and it was while waiting for patients that he began to write. His growing success as an author enabled him to give up his practice and turn his attention to other subjects. He was a passionate advocate of many causes, ranging from divorce law reform and the Channel Tunnel to the issuing of inflatable lifejackets to sailors. He also campaigned to prove the innocence of individuals, and his work on the Edjalji case was instrumental in the introduction of the Court of Criminal Appeal.
