A moving one-person play about the systemic epidemic of mental health and muddled indentities
I’m Fionn Mac Cumhaill, I’m Michael Collins,
I’m Theobald Wolfe Tone ... That’s it! ...
I’m Wolfe Tone!
The Black Wolfe Tone.
I’m the Black Wolfe Tone!

The Black Wolfe Tone is a thrilling new play about identity, raging against the machine, and how young men deal or don’t deal, with the darkness. A fast-paced journey that interrogates our culture of silence, the mind, and growing up mixed race in Ireland. At its heart, it’s about a young boy seeking forgiveness. The inner child wanting only to be acknowledged, loved, and held.

This edition was published to coincide with the world premiere production by Fishamble and Irish Repertory Theatre, in New York and on tour in Ireland, in 2025.

Kwaku Fortune grew up in county Wicklow and graduated from The Lir Academy in 2017. Since graduating, Kwaku has worked consistently in theatre, TV and film. He has performed in some of Ireland's most prominent theatres such as The Abbey and The Gate Theatre. His TV work includes shows such as 'Normal People' and 'Line of Duty'. This is his first play.
