My poetry book 'Poems and Prose by a Simple Country Boy', contains poems and prose I have written over the last 34 years. They are laid out in 12 categories, God, Family, Love, Life, Suicide, Olympics, Race/Slavery, Devil, Dreams, General, Therapy, and Prison.

Over thirty years ago, an idea came into my head, then I wrote my first poem. This one poem sparked an over three-decade adventure. All these poems and prose I have written came from different places inside my being. Some came out of news headlines; others, from my years growing up on our family farm. My faith spurred several of my simple writings, which helped me explore the inner workings of my faith. Love was a strong emotion that fueled many of my poems and prose; they came truly from my heart. The ideas for these writings also came from when I was young and throughout my life, my friends, family, work, the public, and from the simpleness of an innate thought. My writings cover several different categories: Go, Family, Love, Life, Suicide, Olympics, Race/Slavery, Devil, Dreams, General (Ones that don't fit anywhere), Therapy, and Prison. I am not a literary scholar; as the title says, I am a simple country boy. I have no degree in literature, and my poems and prose do not follow any of the typical poetic and prose authors. When I decided to publish them, I knew my target audience was the average person on the street. They need to read poems and prose in layman's terms, ones that they can relate to and connect with. That said, they still have many qualities and expressions that anyone can appreciate. As you will find in my works, take a leap of faith.....

My poetry book 'Poems and Prose by a Simple Country Boy', started in 1990 with my first poem 24 years ago. God starts things off. My faith has been my guiding light throughout my life, these pages grew out of that faith which carried me through my lifetime adventures. Family means the world to me, there are only a few pages, but they are my life and blood. Love, this is a large category. I believe love is the true essence of society. Love breathes life into our souls and bring society together. Life, a truly precious gift given to us by God. Life is to be lived and participated in, not something to just stand on the sidelines and watch it go by. Suicide, this is very introspective category. Though short, it is also personal. Olympics, a sport I loved when I was younger, and two ideas sparked this category. Race/Slavery, these are two ideas which I hope you will feel something when reading them. Devil, the counterpart to God. These took me through the darkness where I feel the Devil resides. Dreams, everyone needs dreams. I hope these make you think of your own dreams and maybe spark you to act on one or two of your own dreams as it is never too late. General, ah the fun category. These are all over the place, they each came at unique times via different ideas. So, explore with an open mind. Therapy, I had a very traumatic event in 2020. These poems and prose came out of my therapy from December 2022 through January 2024, with the therapist who saved my life. Prison, these poems came about through ideas that came to me from different individuals. These individuals were inmates in the minimum-security prison in Bismarck, ND. where I first worked when I moved to Bismarck in February 2024. Now read, explore your thoughts and feelings while reading these pages. Let preconceptions go and just enjoy yourself, you never know what you might find.
