Baba Yaga is tired of being the villain. For centuries, she's been relegated to the margins of myth, a menacing figure lurking in the shadowy depths of the primeval forest. But now, armed with her mortar and pestle, magically transformed into a multiversal vehicle, she's ready to rewrite her story. Her journey begins in her iconic hut, perched on chicken legs, the air thick with the scent of wild herbs and simmering resentment. She's not seeking revenge, but control. Control over the narratives that have defined her, confined her, vilified her.
Her quest takes her through a dazzling, dangerous multiverse of myths. In the icy realm of Norse legend, she forges an unlikely alliance with Fenrir, the monstrous wolf unjustly chained by the Aesir gods. In the desolate corners of Greek myth, she finds kinship with Lamia, a grotesque caricature of motherhood, her story twisted by patriarchal narratives that demonize female power. And in the vibrant lands of Ashanti folklore, she enlists the aid of Anansi, the trickster spider-god, a weaver of webs as intricate as his schemes.
Together, this unlikely quartet sets out to shatter the brittle narratives of the so-called righteous. They confront Zeus in the gilded halls of Olympus, barter with Djinn in the smoky depths of the Arabian Nights, and challenge the very foundations of heroism and villainy. With each encounter, the lines blur. Baba Yaga witnesses unsettling complexities in her allies and unexpected vulnerabilities in her adversaries. Heracles, celebrated for his strength, reveals a tormented soul. Odysseus, cunning and resourceful, is exposed as a self-serving opportunist. Thor, god of thunder, appears less a hero, more a bully with a divine hammer.
As the established order crumbles, a cosmic battle erupts. Fenrir's rage confronts Thor's hammer, Lamia's sorrow challenges Heracles' strength, Anansi's cunning tangles with Odysseus's wit, and Baba Yaga's magic clashes with the combined might of the pantheon. The stakes are higher than ever. Will Baba Yaga rewrite the narratives that have defined her? Or will the guardians of the established order prevail?
The outcome is far from certain. But one thing is clear: Baba Yaga's journey will leave the multiverse forever changed. Narratives, once monolithic, become fluid, open to interpretation and reinterpretation.
