"Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song" was a sensation when it first appeared in 1971, breaking free of any constraints made by Hollywood's filmmakers and heralding the whoe era of "blaxploitation" cinema. It tells the story of Sweetback, one of the world's greatest lovers, so-named because of what he makes women cry. Sweetback is forced on the run after being unfairly incriminated by an inept and corrupt police force. It became one of the all-time top ten grossing independent movies.
