14 Nights is a timely and essential conversation about how we understand homelessness in the UK. Compiled by The Archer Project – a charity based in Sheffield who have been providing support for the homeless community for over 30 years – the book is based on a blog documenting the CEO’s two-week sleepout to raise awareness of the challenges surrounding rough sleeping. It also features reflections shared by those with lived experience of homelessness, offering a vital insight to help us translate statistics into the stories of individuals with desires and difficulties not so very far from our own. Every copy of this book will support the charity’s essential work and also aims to change our perception of homelessness, helping those most in need to rebuild their lives.
The Archer Project has a proven history of transforming the lives of vulnerable and homeless people from Sheffield and the wider region. We offer a range of services that support individuals on an achievable and sustainable journey from sleeping bag to home, enabling them to regain the confidence and ability to volunteer or enter employment. In 2022, The Archer Project supported over 900 individuals at many different stages of recovery. Our services include providing hot meals, medical appointments, showers, laundry, access to telephones and the internet, and acting as a mediator between our beneficiaries and other services such as securing accommodation. When individuals are ready, we also encourage and offer paid employment opportunities within our Archer Project Enterprises. The key to all this is building relationships through conversation, empowering individuals to recover from homelessness by giving them the necessary tools, and enabling those who come to us at their lowest points to thrive and prosper.
