Presents the works of the Bronte sisters and showcases both their unique individual talents and their collective genius.
"Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights", "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Villette". The Bronte sisters were extraordinarily creative women whose passionate, thought-provoking and moving novels have had an enormous influence over English writing. This collection draws together their most famous works and showcases both their unique individual talents and their collective genius.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte were born at Thornton in Bradford. Their father was curate of Haworth, Yorkshire and their mother died in 1821, leaving five daughters and one son. In 1824 Charlotte, Maria, Elizabeth, and Emily were sent to Cowan Bridge, a school for clergymen's daughters, where Maria and Elizabeth both caught tuberculosis and died. The remaining children were taught at home from this point on and together they created vivid fantasy worlds which they explored in their writing. In 1846, the three sisters published Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, and after that Charlotte, Emily and Anne went on to enjoy individual success with their writing. Only Charlotte married, and all three women died before their fortieth birthday. Charlotte Bronte was born on 21 April 1816. She worked as a teacher from 1835 to 1838 and then as a governess. Her first novel, The Professor, was initially rejected by publishers, so Jane Eyre became Charlotte's first published novel in 1847, and met with immediate success. Charlotte went on to publish Shirley in 1849, Villette in 1853 and in then 1854 she married the Revd. Arthur Bell Nicholls. She died the next year, on 31 March 1855. Anne Bronte was born on 17 January 1820. She worked as a governess between 1840 and 1845 and published Agnes Grey (1847) and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848). She died on 28 May 1849. Emily Bronte was born on 30 July 1818. She initially taught as a governess and later travelled to Belgium with Charlotte in order to undertake further study. Wuthering Heights was published in 1847 and Emily died the next year, on 19 December 1848.
