Edward Frederic Benson (1867–1940) was an English novelist, biographer, memoirist, archaeologist and short story writer, known professionally as E.F. Benson. Son of an Archbishop of Canterbury, Benson was part of a literary family, with two brothers also being accomplished writers. Educated at Marlborough and King's College, Cambridge, he cultivated a passion for literature and writing early in his life. His breadth of work spans various genres, including nearly a hundred books, among them biographies, history, and ghost stories, but he is most famous for his social satires and the series of novels that include 'Mapp and Lucia - The Complete Series' which deftly parody the upper-middle-class society of the interwar period in Britain.
