Homing Instincts is a collection of personal essays that explores the ways we define “home” at different stages of our lives. Based on pivotal moments in the author's life in New York City and Oregon, Homing Instincts bridges the gap between where we are and the stories we tell ourselves about where we think we belong.
Dionisia Morales grew up in New York City but now writes from her home in Oregon, where she lives with her husband and two children. She tempers her urban sensibilities with a love of the outdoors, and is an avid rock climber, snowboarder, hiker, and mountain biker. Morales earned her MFA from Oregon State University. Originally interested in writing fiction, a graduate school nonfiction assignment set her on a path to writing essays, and she has been writing them ever since. Her writing has appeared in literary journals such as Crab Orchard Review, Hunger Mountain, Colorado Review, Calyx, and Brevity.
