Lorna Goodison is a poet alive to places, from the loved and lived-in world of Jamaica where she began and started a family, to the United States and Canada where she has made her teaching career, but always re-connecting with her Caribbean roots. Autor

Lorna Goodison was born in Jamaica. Over the past forty years her work has garnered wide international acclaim. She recently became the first non-British writer to be appointed Poet Laureate of the Durham Book Festival in England, and two of her poems have been on display in London's Poems on the Underground. Her work has featured in major anthologies including the Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry, Longman Masters of British Literature, HarperCollins World Reader, Vintage Book of Contemporary World Poetry and Norton Anthology of World Masterpieces. Goodison's awards include the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, the Musgrave Gold Medal from Jamaica, and one of Canada's most important prizes, the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction. Her work is translated into many languages, and she is a central figure at literary festivals throughout the world. She is Professor Emerita of English and African and Afroamerican Studies at the University of Michigan, and has an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies.
