This is a collection of stories about the mad, the bad and the truly dangerous to know from more than 200 years of sporting shooting. It includes women poachers with terriers sewn into their underskirts, South American crocodile stranglers and suicidal Himalayan goat guides.
Mad old colonels who took their trousers off before going elephant hunting, women poachers with terriers sewn into their underskirts, duck shooters chasing their quarry in helicopters - here they all in their vast and until now, long forgotten, eccentricity. Shooting's Strangest Days is a unique collection of stories about the mad, the bad and the truly dangerous to know from more than two hundred years of sporting shooting. Covering everything from delightfully dotty Royals - like George V, who always went shooting with a gun loader deliberately chosen because he looked exactly like the king - to obscure French chamois hunters, South American crocodile stranglers, Russian secret service beaters and suicidal Himalayan goat guides.

Journalist, juggler, orange peel collector and expert on Victorian fish painters, Tom Quinn spends much of his time travelling round Britain looking for quirky subjects to write about. His twelve books to date cover everything from antique collecting to English eccentrics. He's also written a book about the children's author and illustrator Denys Watkins Pitchford as well as a collection of interviews with survivors of the First World War. He also writes occasional obituaries for The Times and edits Country Business magazine.
