She has also been a mother, a scientific illustrator, university instructor, veterinary assistant, farmer, pizza waitress, house cleaner, and carpenter's helper. Her writing, illustrations, and photography have appeared in numerous academic, trade, and general interest publications nationwide. Of all the places she's lived, she feels most at home in southeast Arizona, where she and her husband are building a straw bale house. Their progress is carefully monitored by an ever-changing number of dogs, cats, and horses.
