ELISABETH SCHWARZKOPF: FROM FLOWER MAIDEN TO MARSCHALLIN
Dame Schwarzkopf (1915-2006) was a Flower Maiden in Wagner's Parsifal, in her opera debut. As Marchallin in Strauss's Rosenkavalier she made history. This book is a homage to one of the greatest singers of the last century. Honored by Queen Elisabeth II, she not only posessed an unmistakble timbre, but also a bewitching beauty.

This pictorial volume, on which the soprano collaborated right up until the time of her sudden death, contains hundreds of costume and portrait photography from her private estate that together provides a lasting reflection of her personality and elegance. The core pictures were taken by the Viennese photographer to the stars, Lillian Fayer, who for many years was the trusted companion of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

Kirsten Liese born in Berlin in 1964, studied music education and German philology. Since 1996 she has lived and worked in Berlin as an independent journalist, author and editor specializing in opera, chamber music, concerts, and cinema. Lillian Fayer was born in 1917 in New York. She was educated as a photographer in Vienna at the School for Graphic Education and Research Institue. In 1942 she took over her father's photo studio. She specialized in private and costume portraits as well as full stage scenes. Lillian took photographs for all the big Austrian musical institutions, including the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna State Opera.
