Focuses on Amanda's role of grandmother and valiant homesteader. This work features journal entries that are based on various incidents recorded by women who pioneered in Texas.
Amanda, who captured the hearts of her readers in early episodes, will endear herself even more in the role of grandmother and valiant homesteader in this new volume of ""The Amanda Series"", ""Amanda's Home on the Range"". Events in this episode continue the chronicle begun in ""Book I, Amanda Goes West"", which brought the young pioneer from Tennessee by wagon train to Texas in 1838. The story continues in ""Book II, Amanda's New Life"", recording her marriage, motherhood, Texas statehood, incidents of family life, difficulties of acquiring supplies, and Amanda's ardent need to be always a lady, and a well-dressed one at that. Fashion changes are more rapid in Book III due to the time span covered, 1863-1890, as well as the greater availability of fashion news. Journal entries, based on various incidents recorded by women who pioneered in Texas, have been the result of extensive research by a long-time Museum Costume Curator. Illustrations, artistically and faithfully rendered by a professionally trained fashion illustrator, not only mirror authentic museum originals, but are so well executed as to be individual works of art. Included in this enlarged volume of the series is a glossary of unfamiliar and obsolete terms that have appeared in all three series. ""Amanda's Home on the Range"" is a must for owners of previous volumes. New readers will want the story from its beginning.

For three decades Betty J. Mills served as curator of costume and textiles at the Museum of Texas Tech University. In addition to the Amanda Series, Lynette C. Ross has illustrated many of the paper doll volumes published by Texas Tech University Press.
