Eine Würdigung Günther Ueckers in der ersten Ausstellung nach seinem Tod und gleichzeitig der letzten, an der er noch selbst mitgewirkt hat.
Mit seinen ikonischen Nagelbildern und -reliefs schrieb Günther Uecker Geschichte, als prägende Persönlichkeit der Gruppe ZERO revolutionierte er die Kunst der Nachkriegszeit. Uecker war dem Künstlerbahnhof Rolandseck eng verbunden: Das Nagelrelief Bett zum Aufwachen (1965) befindet sich noch heute in der Museumssammlung, der performative Film Die Treppe (1964) zeigt Uecker, wie er eine Nagelspur in das Gebäude legt. Im Zentrum der insgesamt 45 gezeigten Werke stehen Arbeiten, die der Verletzlichkeit der Welt gewidmet sind – Ausdruck eines Lebenswerks, das Frieden, Empathie und menschliche Verantwortung reflektiert.

The internationally acclaimed artist inscribed his name in art history with his iconic nail paintings and reliefs and, as a key figure of the ZERO group, helped revolutionize post-war art. Uecker maintained a close association with the Künstlerbahnhof at Rolandseck: the nail relief A Bed to Wake In from 1965 remains part of the museum’s collection to this day. The performative film The Staircase from 1964 shows Uecker gradually conquering the station forecourt, nail by nail. At the heart of the exhibition which comprises 45 works are pieces dedicated to the vulnerability of the world – the expression of a life’s work shaped by his commitment to peace, empathy, and human responsibility.
