Die Publikation, die zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung im Baukunstarchiv NRW erscheint, zeigt Arbeiten des Düsseldorfer Künstlerpaars Renata Jaworska und Marcus Schwier. In „Mapping Perspectives“ treten die Werke der Malerin und Zeichnerin Jaworska und des Fotografen Schwier in einen Dialog über Perspektive, Raum und kartografische Darstellung. Im Zentrum steht der Blick von oben – die Vogelperspektive, in der Stadtlandschaften, Bewegungsräume und Identitätsräume aus einer distanzierten, übergeordneten Sicht beleuchtet werden.
In einer auf den Lichthof des Baukunstarchivs abgestimmten Installation präsentieren die beiden Künstler*innen ihre Werke in einer Weise, die den Raum nicht nur bespielt, sondern bewusst in die Wahrnehmung einbindet. Die Arbeiten entfalten sich am Boden und eröffnen – aus der Distanz, von oben betrachtet – eine stille, fast kontemplative Sicht auf das Verhältnis von Körper, Raum und Perspektive.
Dabei entstehen nicht nur neue Bilder, sondern auch neue Fragen: Wie kartografieren wir unsere Welt? Wie beeinflussen Perspektiven unsere Wahrnehmung? Und wie lassen sich Grenzen geografisch, emotional und künstlerisch erfahrbar machen? The publication, which accompanies the exhibition of the same name at the Baukunstarchiv NRW, showcases works by Düsseldorf-based artist couple Renata Jaworska and Marcus Schwier. In “Mapping Perspectives,” the works of painter and illustrator Jaworska and photographer Schwier engage in a dialogue about perspective, space, and cartographic representation. The focus is on the view from above—the bird's-eye perspective, in which urban landscapes, spaces of movement, and spaces of identity are illuminated from a distanced, superordinate viewpoint.
In an installation tailored to the atrium of the Baukunstarchiv, the two artists present their works in a way that not only plays with the space, but also consciously integrates it into the perception. The works unfold on the floor and, viewed from a distance, from above, open up a quiet, almost contemplative view of the relationship between body, space, and perspective.
This gives rise not only to new images, but also to new questions: How do we map our world? How do perspectives influence our perception? And how can boundaries be experienced geographically, emotionally, and artistically?
