for SATB, mezzo-soprano solo, and chamber orchestra
The first movement is a fantasia on a popular Ukrainian carol melody; the style is impressionistic, by turns melancholy and vigorous. The second movement is a setting of the Irish Wexford Carol, the third a rhythmic theme and variations on Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.

James Bassi composes a broad, diverse range of music encompassing choral, orchestral, instrumental and chamber works, song cycles, and theatre music. His sacred choral works are regularly heard in services at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and his Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for choir and organ was premiered at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. His music can be heard on a number of recordings, including two recent CDs on the Pro Organo label: 'Christmas on Fifth Avenue', which features his anthem Quem pastores laudavere, and the upcoming 'An American Christmas', which will feature an excerpt from his Carol Symphony.
