Eu, particularmente, cheguei à conclusão que as pessoas formam um conceito do que seja música folk a partir da maneira como conheceram a música folk. As gerações mais novas conceitualizam a música folk a partir do indie folk. Por isso, não têm a perspectiva histórico/cultural do que seja a música folk e sua visão se limita a um pequeno segmento do universo da folk music. É muito provável que a maioria dos artistas que você considera folk eu conheço ou pelo menos tenha ouvido falar. Mas duvido muito que a maioria dos artistas folk que eu conheço sejam de seu conhecimento. Porque eles não se enquadram no indie folk. Na minha perspectiva, ouvir Folk Music sem ter a perspectiva histórico/cultural não difere muito de ouvir música pop descartável. Folk music sem perspectiva histórico/cultural é só uma musiquinha bonitinha a mais para consumir e jogar fora. Resumindo, a conceitualização do que seja Folk music depende de como você entra no universo da música folk. Neste livro abordaremos de forma profunda o que vem a ser, de fato, a chamada Folk Music e suas vertentes.
