ROBOEXOTICA is an event that has been a globally unique platform at a very special interface of art, technology, research and science, since 1999. Roboexotica is the longest-running festival in the field of media art, digital art and culture in Vienna. Thematically, artists, technicians, researchers and technological philosophers show with their contributions how, both, aesthetically based and pleasurable border crossings between the poles of tension between art and technology, cultural experience and scientific progress can present themselves. As a media art festival in which the focus is not on technology, but on humans – namely as those whose physical well-being is taken care of by robots and other machines – Roboexotica would like to remind you that it is not in the robot‘s „human-machine nature“, but that it is on us not to take advantage and exploit it, because it – like all technology – was created for people to use and for whom it should enable a better, more comfortable life. The intimate relationship between humans and robots is only disrupted by the social conditions that have become as deeply engraved in technology as in any other aspect of life. The robots of Roboexotica drink, cook, mix, play, dance, swear. Just what one does in a bar. Cheers!
