George Deem graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the late 1950s and began his first appropriations of famous works of art in 1962. He has exhibited regularly in solo and group shows, and now lives and has a studio in New York. Among his previous books is How to Paint a Vermeer, also published by Thames & Hudson.
