Für die Gestaltung von Buch und Tonträger haben Sebastian Kokus und Thomas Korf ein sehr haptisches, sinnlich erfahrbares Design geschaffen. Jeder Bestandteil ist Teil des Ganzen, kann aber auch einzeln gesehen werden: das Poster ist zugleich Cover-Element; das begleitende Heft ist Bild- und Textbuch; die Schallplatte selbst ist durch die Loch-Stanzung von Innen- und Außenhülle visueller Bestandteil des Covers. The publication PERIFAERYE by Jorn Ebner is composed of various elements: a vinyl LP, a Poster and a booklet with writings and graphics by the artist. PERIFAERYE was conceived as a sound art project in the public realm, set in the Hamburg district of Eidelstedt on the north-western fringe of the city. From initial audio recordings of the suburban environment the artist developed 18 short soundscapes and related drawings and texts, which present a form of mental cartography. The release is a cross-media work of art: besides an internet version of images and sound (including downloadable sound samples for free private use) there were large billboard posters presented at various locations in the realm of the district, as a way to connect the virtual and the real space.
For the book and record, Sebastian Kokus and Thomas Korf created a very haptic design. Each part of the whole can be experienced as a single piece: the A2-sized poster is part of the outer sleeve; the booklet presents image and text (German only); the record is visible through the holes in the inner and outer sleeves and forms part of the cover.
Jorn Ebner wurde in Bremerhaven geboren, wuchs am Hamburger Stadtrand auf, studierte Literatur, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Hamburg und anschließend Freie Kunst in London am Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Er lebte in London und Newcastle upon Tyne, bevor er nach Berlin zog, wo er jetzt lebt. Ebner arbeitet mit Browsern, Klang und Zeichnungen und beschäftigt sich mit Stadt / Landschaft. Für die Browserarbeit „Lee Marvin Toolbox“ erhielt er 2001 den Kunstpreis des Medienforums München, ein Hybrid aus Text und Animationen, untermalt von einer eigens von ihm eingespielten Coverversion von Marvins Wanderin‘ Star. Seither entwickelt Ebner Soundscapes von Städten / Landschaften mit kulturellen Bezügen (Film, Literatur, Musik) – oft in Bezug zu Zeichnungen oder Fotografien. // About the artist Born in Bremerhaven, Jorn Ebner grew up outside of Hamburg, studied Literature, History and Art History at the University of Hamburg and Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.
