Established in 1870, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is one of the largest art museums in the world. In 1890, the MFA became the first museum in the United States to garner and curate a collection of Japanese artworks. This collection grew to become the largest collection of Japanese art in the world, outside of and second only to that of the nation of Japan itself.
