The Snow Queen is an original fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, which was first published in 1845 in New Fairy Tales. Split into seven short stories, it tells the tale of a little girl called Gerda who must find her friend Kai, as he has been taken by the Snow Queen. This illustration is taken from the c. 1929 edition, with illustrations by Elizabeth Ellender and Katherine Beverley.
