This four-CD set features compositions for two pianos, or for piano four-hands, performed by Howard and Frances Karp between 1963 and 1996. The compositions are by Mozart, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schubert, Dvorak, Reger, Rachmaninoff, and Stravinsky. Program notes are by Howard Karp, and each of the four discs offers more than seventy minutes of music. Howard and Frances Karp met in the spring of 1948 at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, went on together to the Juilliard School of Music, and have been musical and life partners ever since. They have each performed as soloists with symphony orchestras in the United States and Europe and frequently appear in solo recitals or together in chamber music concerts. Howard Karp is professor of music emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Kentucky. Frances Reiche Karp has taught piano and coached opera in addition to her performance career.
