The most comprehensive monograph on the celebrated sculptor.
Anish Kapoor's sculptures are as mysterious as they are beautiful. Although they employ a wide range of traditional and non-traditional materials, their real subject is often immaterial and ungraspable: a chasm, a reflection, a column of air. Kapoor belongs to a generation of British sculptors (Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Antony Gormley) who revived sculpture by injecting it with new vitality, even playfulness, in the wake of Minimalism. It should come as no surprise, then, that he is one of the best-loved artists working today, the recipient of numerous international awards (including the Turner Prize) and the creative force behind some of the most popular public sculptures in contemporary art, including Marsyas in the Tate Modern Turbine Hall (2002) and Cloud Gate in Chicago's Millennium Park (2004).

David Anfam is a critic and art historian, as well as Commissioning Editor in Fine Art at Phaidon Press, London. Johanna Burton is a critic and art historian based in New York. She teaches at the Graduate Program in Curatorial Studies at Bard College and is a regular contributor to Artforum. Richard Deacon is a world-renowned British sculptor and recipient of the 1987 Turner Prize.  Donna De Salvo is Chief Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

David Anfam masterfully interweaves the themes that run through the artist's work, including its relationship to space and the human body. Donna De Salvo visits Anish Kapoor in his studio to discuss process and scale. Johanna Burton provides a linguistic examination of the artist's work, shedding new light on a selection of his finest sculptures. The chronology portrays the artist's life in vivid detail, including historical photographs, quotes and a year-by-year biography. Throughout the book, full-colour photographs offer an exhaustive overview of Kapoor's work, from rarely-seen early performances and installations to his monumental recent sculptures.
