Read children’s book Gifts from Raven in the Haida language. Approved by the best selling author, Ḵung Jaadee, and translated by Dr. Jasḵwaan Bedard, with the assistance of a Haida Elder to ensure cultural safety and authenticity.

With the intention to assist in language preservation while making cultural stories more accessible to Indigenous Peoples, this series of translated books promote the learning of Indigenous languages for all ages with the help of popular and familiar stories.

In this book, Ḵung Jaadee, shares with us that we have each received a special gift from Raven. That gift is our special talent and passion to share with the world. This is an adaptation of her book Raven’s Feast for a younger audience (ages 4-6).

Ḵung Jaadee (Roberta Kennedy) is a professional Indigenous storyteller, educator (BA and BEd) and published author who has been telling stories for 30-plus years. She belongs to the X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Tlingit, səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, and is also part Hawaiian. She was born and raised on Haida Gwaii and is from the Yaguu’laanaas Raven Clan. Her Haida name, Ḵung Jaadee, was presented to her at her great uncle’s memorial feast by her cousin, Crystal Robinson, and means “Moon Woman.” Her Aunt Leialoha gave her the name, Hi’ilawe, in reference to the most famous Hawaiian waterfall on the Big Island. She now resides with her family in East Vancouver on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations. Rumor has it that Jessika von Innerebner was born with a crayon in her hand. An illustrator with a passion for color and comedy, she can draw her way out of almost anything! What she loves most is bringing engaging visuals to child-oriented projects. Jessika started her career at age seventeen and has worked on colorful, creative ideas for Disney, Pixar, Atomic Cartoons and Fisher Price. Jessika lives in Kelowna, British Columbia.
