Pegasus Rising and Other Stories is the fourth anthology for the Complete the Code pathway. It is designed for students who may have gaps in their phonic knowledge which might be masked by coping strategies.
The fully decodable anthology includes 4 texts for Units 8 and 9 in Complete the Code.
The anthologies enable students to practise the code, broaden their vocabulary, develop comprehension, improve fluency, and motivate independent reading.
Designed to look like the books their peers are reading, the anthologies include:
A variety of content: fiction and non-fiction, featuring a wide range of text types, genres, and well-known authors
Levelled practice: stories with varied word counts, length and complexity to provide sufficient practice, flexibility and choice
Appealing visuals: a range of illustration and photographic styles to motivate and engage KS3 readers.
The anthologies are fully integrated within the Code programme and are supported by teacher and text notes available from the Little Wandle Code subscription.
Lindsay Galvin is an author writing for middle grade, teen and adults. She’s a qualified teacher with 20 years experience, and loves to visit schools. Lindsay is also a @writementor tutor, mentor and staff writer, and provides manuscript services. She currently lives on the south coast with three boys, two cats and one puppy. Liz Miles is an author and library campaigner. Her many publications include fiction and non-fiction for children, with subjects ranging from time travel and prehistory to biographies and the arts. She is passionate about children’s literacy and loves writing books that challenge readers’ expectations, inspire new thinking, and bring facts to life. Many of her publications have been sold around the world. She lives and works in the southwest of England, a stone’s throw from the sea. Jonny Walker spends his time writing children's books about mythology, trees and geese. If he is not doing that, he is probably in a school somewhere, shouting expressively about mythology, trees and geese. If he is not doing that, he is probably wandering around London drinking coffee. If he is not doing that, he is probably at home eating a mountain of cookies and singing songs from the 1980s until his neighbours hate him.
