How do people begin to heal? How does the land begin to heal? Discover how a community answered those questions in the wake of 9/11
When Flight 93 crashed in that Pennsylvania field—amidst unfolding tragedy in New York City and Washington D.C.—America grieved alongside those who had lost family and friends. But long before 9/11, that land had been wounded too, lush forests becoming mines before becoming empty fields struggling to thrive. As the community began to plan and build a memorial, they focused on remembrance and growth. Trees, they thought, would help the people root to the past but grow towards the light. And every year people planted. Discover the inspirational story of the programme (Plant a Tree at Flight 93) that restored the strip-mined land surrounding the national memorial in the years following 9/11. Through lyrical prose and lush art, 150,000 Trees illuminates the hope and empathy of the American people and shows the power of individuals to make a difference.

Releasing in time for the 25th anniversary of 9/11

Rebecca E. Hirsch grew up in the Pennsylvania countryside, roaming woods, wading in streams, and climbing trees. She developed a deep curiosity about nature, leading her to study biochemistry and botany — earning a BS and PhD — and creative writing. Rebecca loves writing about science and inviting young readers to explore the natural world. She has written more than ninety books for children. Her books have received a National Council of Teachers of English Notable designation, a Riverby Award, a Green Earth Book Honor, and spots on many “best of” lists. Rebecca lives in Pennsylvania with her husband. When she's not writing, you’ll find her reading, baking bread, growing gardens, tending a small flock of chickens, or wandering in the woods with a nature journal in hand.   Jacqueline Tam is a Hong Kong-American illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY.
