A college student with a secret ability helps investigate a company’s harmful product while falling for a new crush, in this sweet and cosy YA fantasy romance debut!
Dani Lionet spends her time between classes, work, and hiding her unique ability even though she attends a magical university. That way no one else can take advantage of it like her estranged parents used to. So, when a visiting professor calls Dani out on her ability, she’s terrified. However, it looks like Professor Silva only wants to pay Dani to use it to investigate a famous company's soon-to-be-released lucid dreaming product that has awful side effects. Dani already has so much on her plate but a little snooping should be easy enough.
Meanwhile, she has a swoony distraction in Kass, her endearingly cute new regular at the coffeeshop she works at. Dani has never had a boyfriend before, but this may be her chance - even if she can't exactly tell him about her ability, or what she's doing for Silva and her new friend Oliver.
Can Dani help with the professor's “group project,” learn to embrace her ability, and get to know Kass? Or will it all fall apart?
Financial struggles, fantasy, and first crushes are brewed into this timely exploration of the costs that can come with higher education and the ways corporations exploit the working class!

Caroline Bonin writes books about big, magical feelings and girls who glow in the dark. She studied the Irish harp and creative writing at Oberlin College, and received a master's degree in digital marketing from Arizona State University online. After college, she worked as a barista in various cafes and fell in love with the craft, but now works for a marketing agency. When not writing or reading, you can find her playing video games, lifting weights, hiking, sewing, or exploring local coffeeshops. She lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her partner and their three cats: Poptart, Nightingale, and Laura Bailey. A Barista's Guide to Love & Larceny is her debut novel.
