Brian Wildsmith was raised in a small mining village in Yorkshire, where, he says, 'Everything was grey. There wasn't any colour. It was all up to my imagination. I had to draw in my head...' Since those early days, Brian has created more than eighty picture books, which have been translated into twenty languages and have won him an international following. He has been awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal, Britain's highest honour for a distinguished picture book. The Brian Wildsmith Museum was founded in Japan in 1994.
