Padmacandra grew up in Scotland, lives in Norfolk and graduated from the Cambridge School of art. She is a buddhist, works part time with the elderly, and teaches meditation. Her debut THE TALE OF THE WHALE won the Derby Book Award and was shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize, Spark! School Award and North Somerset Teacher's Award.
