Originally published in 2004, the award-winning Something Beginning with P was a collection of new poems for children including poems from leading Irish poets such as Seamus Heaney, Paula Meehan, Rita Ann Higgins, Nuala ní Dhomhnaill, Frank McGuinness and Peter Fallon.
This new, specially curated, edition of P is for Poetry includes best-loved poems and poets taken from the original collection as well as new additions that are sure to become beloved new favourites.
Seamus Cashman is a poet and former book publisher – he founded the Irish literary publishing house Wolfhound Press in 1974. He has had several volumes of poetry published, including That Morning Will Come: New and Selected Poems (2007), The Sistine Gaze: I too begin with scaffolding (2015) and Talking down the Clock & Other Poems (2023), all from Salmon Poetry (salmonpoetry.com). Now living in Swords, County Dublin, he comes from the village of Conna in County Cork. Emma Byrne is a graphic designer and artist. She is a graduate of Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design. She has won numerous awards for her design including The IDI (Irish Design Institute) Graduate Designer of the Year, the IDI Promotional Literature Award for her work on Brown Morning, and a Children’s Books Ireland Bisto Merit Award for her work on Something Beginning With P: New Poems from Irish Poets. She has illustrated many books, including Best-Loved Oscar Wilde, Best-Loved Yeats, The Most Beautiful Letter in the World by Karl O’Neill, a special edition of Ulysses by James Joyce, and A Terrible Beauty by Mairéad Ashe Fitzgerald. Her other books are Irish Thatch and, with Eoin O’Brien, Best-Loved Irish Ballads.
