Navigating Drama is designed for all students studying Drama in Years 9 and 10. The core area of playbuilding is supplemented with an in-depth and integrated study of key dramatic contexts to help students navigate their path through making, performing and appreciating drama.
Navigating Drama is designed for all students studying Drama in Years 9 and 10. The form and content of the teaching programs included reflects the aims and outcomes of the new NSW Board of Studies Drama 7-10 elective course, though it could be used for syllabuses nationwide. The core area of playbuilding is supplemented with an in-depth and integrated study of key dramatic contexts to help students navigate their path through making, performing and appreciating drama. There are in-depth study of Commedia dell'arte and mask work, Melodrama and Australian Melodrama, Australian drama, playwrighting, how to write you own scripts and a comprehensive guide to analyzing, choosing, rehearsing and performing ccripted drama scenes.

Richard Baines has taught drama in schools throughout Australia, and in Kenya and England. He has written and directed plays for school presentation. He is the co-author of the drama text 'Enter the Players' and 'Exits and Entrances', as well as a variety of English text books. Mike O'Brien began teaching drama in secondary schools in 1991 after a career in the theatre spanning fifteen years. He has worked as an actor in stage, television and film, and has directed numerous productions for professional theatre companies. He was resident director at Sydney's Ensemble Theatre for four years.
