A faithful retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story that includes an aqiqah to celebrate the Princess Mariam's birth, a poisoned hijab pin, an unbreakable sleep, the wicked Count Lahab and a charming prince, tasked with travelling to the holy city of Makkah to pray for God's help.
After the wicked Count Lahab promises to crush the young princess Mariam she is hidden within the king's castle. Under the watchful eyes of Lady Masarah, Mariam becomes a pious young woman with strong faith and helpful manners. Upon the news of Mariam's wedding, Count Lahab finds a way to deceive the castle and present her with a beautiful hijab pin, covered in poison, that leaves her in a deep, unbreakable sleep. Her husband, Haris, is told to go on a perilous journey to Makkah to pray for her recovery and bring back zam zam water for her to drink. But, faced by Count Lahab and his outlaws, what does his destiny hold.

Fawzia has worked as a teacher, librarian and school principal in the UK, USA and Canada since 1993. She is the author of thirty children's books, mostly on the topic of Eid. Currently studying children's Islamic Literature at University, she also works as an educational consultant. Although based in the Gulf, she also spends her time between Ohio and England with her husband and daughter.
