He is the cofounder of the Asociacion de Ecuatorianistas, an international scholarly organization devoted to promoting Ecuadorian literature and culture outside of Ecuador. His research interests include Spanish-American prose, women writers, Afro-Hispanic literature, literary journals, and issues related to national identity.
