Brandenburg ist vor allem bekannt für seine international bedeutenden mesolithischen Fundstellen wie die Feuchtbodenplätze Friesack und Zeestow sowie Deutschlands bislang ältestes Gräberfeld mit hervorragender Knochenerhaltung und Genetik in Groß Fredenwalde. Die vorliegende Masterarbeit widmet sich hingegen mit Steingeräten einem scheinbar unspektakulären “klassischen” Fundmaterial der Mittelsteinzeit. Die seltenen Großgeräte, die Kernbeile und Scheibenbeile, einer der fundreichsten Regionen Brandenburgs, des Landkreises Uckermark im Nordosten des Landes, waren bislang nur ausschnitthaft publiziert und werden nun mit einem ausführlichen Katalog von 189 Stücken insgesamt vorgelegt. Vielfältige Analysen wie die Erarbeitung einer Chronologie, die Rekonstruktion des Abbauprozesses und Überlegungen zur Nutzung der Beile anhand von Gebrauchsspuren ergänzen die Materialuntersuchungen. 64 % der Beile sind Kernbeile, die übrigen Scheibenbeile. Sie lassen sich ingesamt 16 Untertypen zuweisen, deren Verbreitung und Datierung eingehend behandelt werden. Es war zudem möglich, für ausgewählte Exemplare eine lange Objektbiographie nachzuzeichnen.
Brandenburg is best known for its internationally significant Mesolithic sites, such as the wetland sites at Friesack and Zeestow, and Germanys earliest cemetery to date, with excellent bone preservation and genetics, at Groß Fredenwalde. This masters thesis, however, focuses on the stone implements, a seemingly unspectacular “classic” type of finds from the Mesolithic period. The rare large tools, such as core axes and flake / tranchet axes, from one of Brandenburgs richest regions, the district of Uckermark in the north-east of the state, had only been published partly before and are now presented in a detailed catalogue of 189 pieces in total for the first time. The study of the material is supplemented by a variety of analyses, such as the development of a chronology, the reconstruction of the mining process and considerations on the use of the axes based on use wear traces. 64% of the axes are core axes, the rest are flake axes. They can be assigned to a total of 16 subtypes, whose distribution and dating are discussed in detail. Additionally, it was possible to trace a long object biography for selected specimens.
