This commentary on 1-3 John by a New Testament scholar from the Spirit-filled tradition emphasizes how we listen alongside ancient audiences for the Spirit's voice in our time and contexts.
The Word and Spirit Commentary on the New Testament meets the need for a balanced, affordable, and accessible commentary series aimed at Christians who identify as Spirit-filled. Each volume
· is written by pastorally sensitive biblical scholars from the Spirit-filled tradition;
· offers paragraph-by-paragraph commentary;
· includes images, illustrations, and sidebars on pentecostal/charismatic/revival history or insights;
· engages biblical books in their ancient setting;
· emphasizes how we listen alongside ancient audiences for the Spirit's voice in our time and contexts; and
· explores how Christians can expect God to work today, even if in new or culturally surprising ways.
Series editors are Holly Beers, Westmont College, and Craig S. Keener, Asbury Theological Seminary.
In this compelling commentary, Jamal-Dominique Hopkins delves into the rich themes of godly love, radical Christian hospitality, and the transformative power of a Spirit-filled, Spirit-led life as revealed in the epistles of 1-3 John. He brings the Johannine writings to life by grounding them in their historical context and uncovering striking parallels with themes found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. This commentary is an invaluable resource offering fresh insight into oft-neglected biblical texts.
