The book provides a step-by-step process for investigators to follow, discussing the daily conduct of these studies and common concerns, such as how to write a treatment manual, manage your study team, recruit participants, and finance and cost your trial. Arean and Pullman offer practical, hard-earned lessons of conducting clinical trials for psychosocial interventions--the kind of insights rarely taught in classrooms but often gained through mentorship, hands-on experience, and trial and error. The book delves into the ins and outs of different clinical trials, from proof of concept to large scale digitally remote trials and explains the purpose of each trial type. High Quality Psychosocial Interventions Research aims to provide something of value for researchers at all stages of their careers.
Patricia Areán is a professor in Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington and an international expert on the effectiveness of behavioral interventions for mood disorders. Her research focuses on the recognition and treatment of mental disorders in older adults and minority populations, particularly in recognition and treatment of depression that is identified in non-mental health settings, and the use of technology for improving scalability, usability, personalization, and quality of psychosocial treatments. She is also the director of the NIMH funded ALACRITY Center at the University of Washington. Dr. Areán has published several articles on the recognition and treatment of late life depression and anxiety, as well as methods for recruiting and retaining large numbers of minority adults into longitudinal research. Michael Pullmann leads the SMART Center analytic Data Core. His research has focused on community-based and participatory approaches in cross-system collaborative efforts to serve youth and families with complex needs, with an emphasis on education and mental health. He also conducts research on racial and ethnic disproportionality in discipline, and the commercial sex trafficking of minors. He provides methodological leadership on multiple projects within the SMART center, with a particular interest in illuminating the impact of policy decisions through longitudinal approaches to data analyses of large scale administrative databases, and on smaller scale implementation and dissemination efforts. His latest efforts have focused on identifying the possible unforeseen consequences and outcomes associated with implementation strategies.
