A poor man risks his life in a dangerous wager, and finds himself in a desperate situation. Things look hopeless, but then quick-witted Urvashi comes to the rescue … This is a traditional Akbar and Birbal tale, expanded and retold from a different perspective.
Set during the time of the Mughal empire, the story and the pictures capture elements of Indian culture and customs which are also relevant today. The text is rich in dialogue and lends itself well to classroom acting.
The author’s detailed illustrations accompany the story chapter by chapter, providing further opportunities for oral and written work. This story is suitable for class 6/7.
An accompanying workbook will be available in November 2025.
