Practical guidance for applying Gottman method couple therapy—now updated and revised
More than twenty–five years ago, The Marriage Clinic presented a complete marital therapy programme based on John Gottman’s much heralded research on marital success and failure. Julie Gottman’s The Marriage Clinic Casebook then bridged the gap between this powerful theory and its unique applications to practical scenarios. Now, this thoroughly updated casebook coincides with the release of the Gottmans’ The New Marriage Clinic.

Edited by two seasoned trainers of the Gottman method—a leading couple therapy method—this casebook offers crucial insights into doing this work across a broad range of couples and relational issues. Readers will find detailed information about working with comorbidities, complex treatment issues and special populations. The complexity and intersectionality of real–world couples is emphasised throughout. Culturally sensitive and updated with cutting–edge research, this casebook is indispensable for any couple therapist, regardless of whether they’ve been trained in the Gottman method.

Carrie Cole, PhD, LPC-S, LMHC, the research director for Gottman Inc., and Donald Cole, D.Min., the clinical director of Gottman Inc., are the developers of a training program to treat psychological aggression in couple relationships, and the authors of multiple chapters and articles. They reside in Seattle, Washington. John M. Gottman, PhD, is the cofounder of The Gottman Institute and of Affective Software, Inc., and was recently honored with 2021 Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Psychotherapy Networker. He resides on Orcas Island, Washington. Julie Schwartz Gottman, PhD, is the cofounder of The Gottman Institute and of Affective Software, Inc., and was recently honored with 2021 Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Psychotherapy Networker. She resides on Orcas Island, Washington.
