Der vorliegende Band ist das Resultat eines langjährigen Forschungsprojektes zu den Kulturkomplexen des Châtelperronien und Aurignacien in West- und Mitteleuropa und der Technologie ihrer Fundmaterialien. Auf eine Einleitung des Herausgebers folgen 10 Aufsätze. Diese befassen sich mit der lokalen Entstehung des Châtelperronien, einer kritischen Beurteilung der Knochenwerkzeuge des Châtelperronien, den Freiluftfundstel-len von Canaule, Le Basté und Bidart, dem Siedlungswesen und dem techno-ökonomischen System des Châtelperronien aus funktionaler Sicht, den Knochengeräten des Aurignacien in Westeuropa, den Châtelperronien-Schichten von Ormesson-Les Bossats, einem Forschungsprojekt zu Châtelperron als Schlüsselfundplatz des Übergangs Mittelpaläolithikum/Jungpaläolithikum in Zentralfrankreich, der Frage von Châtelperron, Germolles und Châtelperronien in Ostfrankreich und evtl. der Schweiz, einem Vergleich der Klingenherstellung und Mikroklingenherstellung von Châtelperronien und Aurignacien in Ostfrankreich und auf der Schwäbischen Alb sowie Kreativitätszentren des Aurignacien anhand von Schmuckstücken aus Schwaben, Belgien und Ostfrankreich.
This volume is the result of a long-term research project on the cultural complexes of the Châtelperronian and Aurignacian in Western and Central Europe and the technology of their archaeological materials. An introduction by the editor is followed by 10 papers. These deal with the local origins of the Châtelperronian, a critical assessment of the bone tools of the Châtelperronian, the open-air sites of Canaule, Le Basté and Bidart, the settlement and techno-economic systems of the Châtelperronian from a functional point of view, the bone tools of the Aurignacian in Western Europe, the Châtelperronian layers of Ormesson-Les Bossats, a research programme on Châtelperron as a key site for the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic Transition in Central France, the question of Châtelperron, Germolles and Châtelperronian in Eastern France and possibly Switzerland, a comparison of blade and microblade production in Châtelperronian and Aurignacian sites in Eastern France and the Swabian Jura, and centres of creativity within the Aurignacian based on personal ornaments from Swabia, Belgium and Eastern France.
