The Polish baron Johannes a Lasco (1499-1560) was a European figure of the Reformation. In the course of his studies and his activities as a church leader and Reformer he spent considerable periods of time in Italy, Switzerland (Basle), Hungary, the Netherlands, East Frisia, England, and Frankfurt am Main, before returning to Poland. In commemoration of the five hundredth anniversary of a Lasco's birth, the Johannes a Lasco Library in Emden organised an international symposium of research on his life and work, which took place from 14-17 October 1999. This volume presents the results of that symposium.
