Martin Luther hat im Erfurter Augustinerkloster entscheidende Prägungen erfahren. Die Beiträger dieses Bandes behandeln die Kontinuitäten und Brüche seiner reformatorischen Theologie gegenüber diesen spätmittelalterlichen Wurzeln und hinterfragen dabei auch das Konstrukt einer reformatorischen 'Wende'.
Gegenstand der im Zusammenhang einer Tagung aus Anlass des 500. Jubiläums von Luthers Klostereintritt entstandenen Studien ist die Frage nach der theologischen Basis, die Luther im intellektuellen Erfahrungsraum der Tradition des Ordens der Augustiner-Eremiten und der Universitätstheologie gewinnen konnte, und ihrer Transformation in seiner reformatorischen Theologie. In July of 1505, at the age of 21, Martin Luther entered the Erfurt monastery of the Augustinian Eremites and thus also the realm of this holy order's tradition and the academic theology of the early 16th century. The studies in this volume look into the theological basis which Luther obtained there and its transformation in the course of the Reformation. The authors provide new insights into the relationship between Luther and his late medieval background and question the scholarly construct of an abrupt "Wende".
