Mandal Eight

मा चिदन्यद्वि शंसत सखायो मा रिषण्यत ।

इन्द्रमित्स्तोता वृषणं सचा सुते मुहुरुक्था च शंसत ॥१॥

Let no one sing another’s praise,

Let no resentment cloud your days.

O Indra, lord of endless might,

Rise strong within the sacred rite. [1]

अवक्रक्षिणं वृषभं यथाजुरं गां न चर्षणीसहम् ।

विद्वेषणं संवननोभयंकरं मंहिष्ठमुभयाविनम् ॥२॥

A roaring bull, untamed, unbound,

With wisdom vast and power profound.

His mighty arms the earth embrace,

His thunder shakes the sky with grace. [2]

यच्चिद्धि त्वा जना इमे नाना हवन्त ऊतये ।

अस्माकं ब्रह्मेदमिन्द्र भूतु तेऽहा विश्वा च वर्धनम् ॥३॥

O Indra, hear the call we send,

As offerings rise, our voices blend.

May prayers ascend and blessings flow,

May strength within thy kingdom grow. [3]

वि तर्तूर्यन्ते मघवन्विपश्चितोऽर्यो विपो जनानाम् ।

उप क्रमस्व पुरुरूपमा भर वाजं नेदिष्ठमूतये ॥४॥

The learned ones invoke your name,

Their hymns resound with sacred flame.

O Indra, charge with thunder bright,

And lead us forth in glory’s light. [4]

महे चन त्वामद्रिवः परा शुल्काय देयाम् ।

न सहस्राय नायुताय वज्रिवो न शताय शतामघ ॥५॥

No riches vast nor gold so bright,

Can ever match your boundless might.

No wealth nor thousands shall suffice,

For your great power has no price. [5]

वस्याँ इन्द्रासि मे पितुरुत भ्रातुरभुञ्जतः ।

माता च मे छदयथः समा वसो वसुत्वनाय राधसे ॥६॥

You are my father, guide, and friend,

On you, my prayers and hopes depend.

O Indra, grant us wealth untold,

In kindness vast, in mercy bold. [6]

क्वेयथ क्वेदसि पुरुत्रा चिद्धि ते मनः ।

अलर्षि युध्म खजकृत्पुरंदर प्र गायत्रा अगासिषुः ॥७॥

Where do you wander, Lord so grand,

In countless realms, across the land?

With battle’s cry, you tear the sky,

Your thunder roars, the foes comply. [7]      

प्रास्मै गायत्रमर्चत वावातुर्यः पुरंदरः ।

याभिः काण्वस्योप बर्हिरासदं यासद्वज्री भिनत्पुरः ॥८॥

Sing, O voices, raise his fame,

Breaker of barriers, honored name.

Let chants resound, let echoes rise,

O Indra, ruler of the skies. [8]

अश्वासो ये ते वृषणो रघुद्रुवस्तेभिर्नस्तूयमा गहि ॥९॥

May fearless warriors guard your throne,

With steeds that race like winds unknown.

O Indra, charge in mighty flight,

Lead forth your hosts with boundless might. [9]

आ त्वद्य सबर्दुघां हुवे गायत्रवेपसम् ।

इन्द्रं धेनुं सुदुघामन्यामिषमुरुधारामरंकृतम् ॥१०॥

From heaven’s vast and endless streams,

Let gifts pour forth in golden beams.

O Indra, grant in boundless ways,

The wealth of light, the boon of days. [10]

यत्तुदत्सूर एतशं वङ्कू वातस्य पर्णिना ।

वहत्कुत्समार्जुनेयं शतक्रतुः त्सरद्गन्धर्वमस्तृतम् ॥११॥

Like winds that rush through open skies,

Like chariots swift as thunder flies.

O Indra, bold with fearless might,

You rise and lead in glorious light. [11]

य ऋते चिदभिश्रिषः पुरा जत्रुभ्य आतृदः ।

संधाता संधिं मघवा पुरूवसुरिष्कर्ता विह्रुतं पुनः ॥१२॥

You bind the world in sacred ties,

Restoring all where ruin lies.

O Indra, forge the path ahead,

And weave the strands of fate once shed. [12]

मा भूम निष्ट्या इवेन्द्र त्वदरणा इव ।

वनानि न प्रजहितान्यद्रिवो दुरोषासो अमन्महि ॥१३॥

Let not the forests turn to dust,

Nor sorrow take the land unjust.

O Indra, guard the world from strife,

And fill the dark with endless life. [13]

अमन्महीदनाशवोऽनुग्रासश्च वृत्रहन् ।

सकृत्सु ते महता शूर राधसा अनु स्तोमं मुदीमहि ॥१४॥

Your victories echo far and wide,

O mighty warrior, strength and guide.

We raise our voices, bold and free,

And sing of all you bring to be. [14]

यदि स्तोमं मम श्रवदस्माकमिन्द्रमिन्दवः ।

तिरः पवित्रं ससृवांस आशवो मन्दन्तु तुग्र्यावृधः ॥१५॥

May sacred hymns reach Indra’s ears,

Like flowing streams throughout the years.

May Soma lift his mighty soul,

And bless us with his gifts untold. [15]

आ त्वद्य सधस्तुतिं वावातुः सख्युरा गहि ।

उपस्तुतिर्मघोनां प्र त्वावत्वधा ते वश्मि सुष्टुतिम् ॥१६॥

Come, O Indra, hear our call,

Among true friends, supreme to all.

Let praises raise your name up high,

And spread your glory through the sky. [16]

सोता हि सोममद्रिभिरेमेनमप्सु धावत ।

गव्या वस्त्रेव वासयन्त इन्नरो निर्धुक्षन्वक्षणाभ्यः ॥१७॥

The Soma flows in sacred streams,

Like golden threads in divine beams.

O Indra, drink the nectar pure,

Its essence vast, its call secure. [17]

अध ज्मो अध वा दिवो बृहतो रोचनादधि ।

अया वर्धस्व तन्वा गिरा ममा जाता सुक्रतो पृण ॥१८॥

From earth and sky, the boundless dome,

O Indra, rise in endless roam.

Expand in form, in might, in grace,

Let all behold your shining face. [18]

इन्द्राय सु मदिन्तमं सोमं सोता वरेण्यम् ।

शक्र एणं पीपयद्विश्वया धिया हिन्वानं न वाजयुम् ॥१९॥

For Indra, let the Soma rise,

A drink most pure, a sacred prize.

O mighty ruler, strong and wise,

Let wisdom shine within your eyes. [19]

मा त्वा सोमस्य गल्दया सदा याचन्नहं गिरा ।

भूर्णिं मृगं न सवनेषु चुक्रुधं क ईशानं न याचिषत् ॥२०॥

I shall not plead, nor ask in vain,

O Indra, heed this sweet refrain.

Drink Soma’s strength, embrace its cheer,

Let mighty power draw you near. [20]

मदेनेषितं मदमुग्रमुग्रेण शवसा ।

विश्वेषां तरुतारं मदच्युतं मदे हि ष्मा ददाति नः ॥२१॥

By joy alone the fierce arise,

By strength unseen where thunder flies.

O Indra, bring your gifts untold,

Grant fortune bright, grant riches bold. [21]

शेवारे वार्या पुरु देवो मर्ताय दाशुषे ।

स सुन्वते च स्तुवते च रासते विश्वगूर्तो अरिष्टुतः ॥२२॥

The gods bestow rewards so vast,

To those who praise, their gifts will last.

O Indra, bless the faithful wise,

And let their glory ever rise. [22]

एन्द्र याहि मत्स्व चित्रेण देव राधसा ।

सरो न प्रास्युदरं सपीतिभिरा...
